The lines are painted with a brush while rotating the piece on the lathe: a simple decoration typical of everyday Japanese folk ceramics. The fractures, clearly visible even on the inside, have been repaired with black urushi lacquer; the missing fragment has been reconstructed in lacquer and repainted with colored urushi, echoing the lines
